The Instinctive Birth Method is a five-element framework for preparing for a physiological birth. I created it from over two decades as an NHS midwife, watching what actually changes things for women. Not more information. Not a longer birth plan. But an unshakeable trust in their own body - and the confidence to act on it even when the journey takes an unexpected path.
The method is evidence-informed and deeply physiological. It takes seriously both the extraordinary capacity of the birthing body and the reality of navigating a maternity system that does not always support it.
The maternity system is moving further from physiological birth, not closer.
The birth prep we did together instilled a real trust in my body and my baby. We worked on navigating my feelings around the process of birth & unpicked any fears.

What we cover across the five weeks
Week 1 - Know Your Own Mind. This is the foundation, unpicking what you’re bringing to this pregnancy and birth. What is really yours? What are you ready to leave behind? Understanding yourself enables you to listen to your own voice - your instinct. This is where it starts.
Week 2 - Know Your Body. Here’s where we dive into a physiological, magical, hormonal cocktail of labour and birth. What really supports it, what disturbs it, and the key ingredients to maximise your ability to birth your baby naturally.
Week 3 - Know Your System. As statistics show a 44% vaginal birth in the UK, it is important to understand how your intention to have a natural birth will be supported (or not) within the NHS. From my experience as a midwife, you will learn how the system is designed, what is offered routinely and how you can stay centred in your instinct and choices when engaging with care providers.
Week 4 - Find Your Voice. This is where you pull the threads together for your unique birth vision. We explore what the crucial and often overlooked moments in pregnancy, labour, birth and the first hours with your baby, that can disrupt physiology, autonomy and even safety.
Week 5 - Trust Your Instinct. Plan B. Everything we explore and learn together is rooted in supporting our innate ability to birth our babies safely. However, sometimes birth can throw us some unexpected curveballs, despite everything we’ve put in place to support our natural birth. We explore these here and make a solid Plan B, because it’s been shown that having agency over your birth, even when plans change, can make the difference between a traumatic or positive experience.
