Are you planning to birth at Truro, Helston or Penrice Birth Centre? Treliske Hospital or at home?
Three hours, in person, with your birth partner.
You'll leave knowing exactly what to do when contractions start, which positions actually work and why, and how your partner can support you.
This is for you…
You're pregnant and want to feel prepared for labour
Your birth partner wants to support you and wants to know the best way to do that
You’re worried about a long or slow labour and don’t know what actually helps
You’ve heard the term ‘back-to-back’ and want to know what it means and what you can do about it
You're hoping for a straightforward birth and want to give yourself the best chance of one
It could be your first baby or your last baby, and you want to feel confident going into labour
Join me, a former midwife and doula, for an afternoon to learn how your body works best in labour and feel confident and ready for birth.
What’s different about this antenatal class?
This is hands-on.
You'll understand why your position in labour and birth is so important and change the outcome of your birth.
We’ll practise the actual positions and movements that help labour progress.
Everything I teach is grounded in my experience as a midwife, of seeing what actually works during labour.
We'll be working with birth balls, peanut balls, try out a birth pool, plus we’ll have a ‘bed’ too.
And because I want you to be prepared for everything, we'll include what happens if you choose or need an epidural, a drip or an induction.
Hi, I’m Evony
I spent over 20 years as an NHS midwife, on labour wards, in birth centres, and at home births. Hundreds of births. I've been teaching antenatal classes since 1999 and working here in Cornwall since 2008, with many years as a community midwife here in Penzance.
I've used these in hundreds of labours in low and high risk labours, in birth units, homes and hospital. And I know how they you can still adapt them for continuous monitoring, inductions, drips and epidurals.
I’m no longer a midwife and now use these techniques with doula clients to support them to birth their babies at home and on the birth unit.
What you leave with:
How your body actually opens and dilates, and why position matters
Practical, active positions for early and established labour
What "back-to-back" means, why it can lead to a longer, slower labour, and the specific movements you can use in labour to help your baby move
Why some labours are longer and what you can do if this happens to you
Hands-on partner techniques: the jiggle, hip squeeze, counterpressure and more
Using birth balls and peanut balls to open the pelvis and support rest
A side-lying release on the couch, so you both know exactly how it feels and how it's done
A demonstration of positions in the birth pool and get in to try yourself!
What changes, and what doesn't, if you choose or need an epidural or continuous monitoring
How your partner can genuinely support you
Time for your own questions, specific to your pregnancy
Includes a handy A5 printed guide for labour to pack in your birth bag.
