Thinking of quitting midwifery to be a doula?
Join me, a former midwife who deregistered, and learn how I went from burned-out midwife to birthkeeper, and why your average doula course is not made for us.
Saturday August 22nd 10-11 am.
You’re exhausted after another short staffed night. Again.
Another night of caring for someone on synto two days into their induction at 41 weeks. 🙄
You’ve barely seen any ‘normal births’ and that birth centre you hoped you’d work at one day is probably going to close, because no one is using it anymore.
But if you quit, what would you actually do?
Midwifery was a calling.
But this?
This isn’t what you thought midwifery was about was it?
Does this sound like you?
You’re a student midwife who can’t face another shift being thrown in a room to get your numbers - because birth is more than numbers.
You can’t be the midwife you want to be because the guidelines run everything - not choice or individual care.
The midwife you want to be just doesn’t exist in the system anymore.
Even community or independent midwifery is not how you thought supporting births would be.
You’ve thought of quitting your course - or deregistering but…
What if I regret it? Yes I did and no, I haven’t. 🤣
Can I change my mind? Yep.
Would I get in trouble as an ex-midwife for doing something I shouldn’t? 😳 Let’s talk.
Would I be wasting all my training and experience? Erm, no.
You can either carry on thinking you want to leave for the next twenty years…or find out what it might really look like on the other side.
What have you got to lose?
Yeah, at the end I’ll share my ‘alternative-to-a-doula-course’ container made for midwives seeking a different way to work. But you will hear from someone who cares deeply about this work and the realities of transitioning from midwife to doula/birthkeeper.

“My vision...is to create a community where we weave skills and knowledge, trust and respect; a haven for nurturing the wise women of the future, and a safe space for birthing.”
Physiological birth is not an ideology. It’s a bone deep desire.
And we will always need the ‘wise women’ who understand it.

Hannah, Homebirth After Trauma
Words can never sum up the positive emotional impact Evony has had on our lives. I hired Evony as a private midwife and had a beautiful healing homebirth after a traumatic second birth. Birth is such a vulnerable time but with right care can be a truly empowering experience. Me and my family will be forever grateful for the care Evony provided. She is worth her weight in gold!

Micheline, Former student
Evony is such a beautiful soul that teaches from a deep well of experience and love inside of her . With this program she fostered a feeling of community, of respect for each other and deep honouring of childbirth as a rite of passage.
